One year ago today, the youngest Hart in my family underwent a very scary heart surgery just before her 1st birthday and has the amazingly beautiful scar to prove it. 💖💖💖 She is our little Lion Hart! 🦁 What a difference a year makes!!! #RockYourScars 🎀

@melissajoanhart when I was born I contracted septicaemia at four days old. Luckily in those days first time Mothers stayed in hospital for a week. It was found that my heart was the size of an orange due to the infection. I had to have an operation called PDA which essentially separates the blue and red blood when I was four. My scar is behind my shoulder from the side round and up to the middle. I had so much antibiotics to prevent any infection getting to my heart before the op too. The op was a total success but I suffered brain damage from turning blue from the septicaemia and that left me hemiplegic on the left side and I went on to develop epilepsy too. But it could all have been much worse. I am lucky. My family call me the strong arm of the law as the unaffected right side being super strong.

My son was full term. All appointments and ultra sounds were good and showed no heart defect. I had a c-section and they pulled him out and he was blue. A week later he had open heart surgery due to his Tetrology of Fallot diagnosis. Then a 2nd at a year and a half old. Countless catheters and just last year a 3rd at Stanford University. He's 18 and doing well. When we go through these type of things you think in the back of your m I'll nd that you are some of the few parents that go through this, but then you come and find out you are like so many others having to see your child go through such craziness. But God is bigger than any being in the world and my son (like many) get through it.

I was born with transposition of the great arteries (TPA) in 1988. I underwent open heart at 6 days old and remained in the hospital for 2 months. At the time I was one of the youngest to have the surgery at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh and there were alot of unknowns. Today at 31 years old, I'm fortunate to be very healthy and have experienced minimal side effects of my surgery and diagnosis. My scars (chest, groin, back, sides, stomach) are constant reminders of how I fought to be in this world. Your little girl has been given a gift. Her scars will remind her of that daily. 💕🙏🏻

@dmer29, They found it when she was born. She had two surgeries when she was three months old. They did one on a Friday, and she was not doing well, so they had to reopen her up four days later to do more repair. She had one at four years, and then this one recently. The ones at four and now have been to replace her pulmonary valve. All her surgeries were done at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis.

My daughter was born with several heart defects and had her first open heart surgery when she was 6 weeks old and her 2nd when she was 8 weeks old. She had a trach, gtube and still has a pacemaker. She was in the CICU for the first 8 months of her life. This journey has been challenging yet so rewarding. We celebrated her 9th birthday in May. Heart kiddos are a special and amazingly strong breed ❤️💙

My son had open heart surgery for a VSD repair.. aka massive hole between two bottom chambers. He was 5 months old and it was the scariest thing I have ever experienced. Knowing that due to the heart he was born with my son could have died before his first birthday is still terrifying. He is now a fun, energetic 9 year old little boy who has some awesome scars to show for it.
