It is the coldest winter month in the southern hemisphere and a time when rural Andean communities are at their most vulnerable. In many different rituals and traditions across South America, communities honor the earth that provides for them and ask for protection of crops and livestock. I want to celebrate the enduring culture and legacy of the Andean people of the Americas, and all indigenous peoples across the world who honor, worship, and strive to live in harmony with the natural world and who understand that by taking care of the earth, her bounty will sustain us.
