REMEMBERING HAYWOOD STENTON 'JOHN' JONES “When the father steps aside, At the wrong time…” Fifty years ago today on the 5th of August 1969, David Bowie's father, Haywood Stenton 'John' Jones, died of pneumonia (aged just 56), at the family home in Bromley.
In 1993, David spoke to writer and fellow one-time Bromley resident, Hanif Kureishi, about the loss of his father. + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + “It was at a point when I was just beginning to grow up a little bit and appreciate that I would have to stretch out my hand a little for us ever to get to know each other. He just died at the wrong damn time, because there were so many things I would have loved to have said to him and asked him about.
All those stereotypical regrets when your father dies and you haven’t completed your relationship. I felt so...Damn! Wrong time! Not now, not now!” + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - +
David is pictured with both parents (John and Margaret Mary 'Peggy' Jones) top left in our montage and bottom left with his father and cousin Kristina.

Yes, very sad.... I think he was a gentle man and David got on well with him, whereas his mum was more standoffish and diffhcult and David spent his whole life trying to please her. David rushed back to England when he heard his Dad was ill. He had just collected his first award in music and just got to tell him before he died. His Dad said "I always knew you would make it"..... lovely that at least he knew, but so sad he missed all of Davids 'Golden Years' that were to follow - had he been around, he may have helped prevent Davids 'low years' in LA. After losing his big love, Hermione' and then his Dad dieing, obviously didnt help. She was his 'Soulmate' and he worshipped his Dad. Poor David had lost the two people he was closest to on Earth.... Lets hope he and his Dad have 're-kindled' by now .....💋🍀💕🍀💕💕💕💕💕🐦💕

@alexa32821 Time is a great little helper, don't rush it, you need to travel through this and adjust at your own pace. I'm not going to lie, It's always going to hit you hard from time to time but your pain will ease and you will find comfort in your memories. Stay well.

I know from personal experience that if you are fairly young when you lose both or one parent you have regrets. For not being old enough to appreciate them while there alive. Rip David.

@alexa32821 So sorry for your loss, terribly young age. I lost my Dad 5 years ago & I still miss him. With time things do get easier, but to lose a parent is tough. Stay strong x

But David wore his cross throughout his life, a treasured gift from his dad! Often seen in many photos of David! #realdavidbowie #davidbowie #the_real_iman
