Photo by @MichaelGeorge // This was the smelliest place I have ever been. I was also totally and completely exhausted. For this assignment, I was asked to drive the entire Ring Road of Iceland in only five days. This journey often takes people ten days to complete. Driving the winding and lonely roads in a fever dream of tiredness added another layer of magic to this otherworldly landscape. The Hverir Geothermal area in Iceland is a unique wasteland in which pools of boiling mud, hot springs, and hissing chimneys give life to a desolate Mars-like scenery. The sulfur and other minerals are so pungent that they stick to your nose for hours after you depart. This area is part of the Diamond Circle drive in northeastern Iceland.
