Vogue Italiaさんのインスタグラム写真 - (Vogue ItaliaInstagram)「Anna e Petra by @petrafcollins. Revealing more about our August Issue on Newsstands Today. ‘Having spent almost half of my life shooting other women, I thought, what about me?’. Collins’ imaginary universe is a bit ‘Lolita’ and a bit ‘Twin Peaks’, starting from a tangible reality that she, as an adolescent, tried to distance herself from by photographing her sister and girlfriends in their bedrooms. Ryan McGinley has called her ‘Warholian’ because of how she mixes art and commerce as an artist, model and curator. Her collaborations range from the MoMA museum to brands like Gucci. If you Google her name, results for “female gaze”abound: her photos of young women explore questions of identity in the media space between public and private. Her aims are even clearer if you look at her various side projects, such as having founded the Ardorous collective – a platform with the objective of redefining how women are seen in today’s world. Through that collective, she stirred up a bit of a controversy because of a t-shirt created with American Apparel showing a menstruating vagina. Her latest series entitled ‘Why be you when you could be me?’ is not much easier to take. Published in the sixth installment of Baron magazine, Collins’ photographs focus on immodest images of the body and its various parts. A unique take on the self-portrait.
