@prometheanliver a major gun grab will never be the answer. It will only incite violence from otherwise law abiding and good people. Also, try to learn about firearms and refrain from using the manufactured term Assault Weapon when making your arguments. You will not find any of those at your local gun shop. There are background checks run on purchase of new firearms in all 50 states. That is a federal law that was supported by the NRA believe it or not. There are an additional 20k+ federal and state gun laws on the books that also have not prevented any of these crimes starting with the fact that murder is illegal. You cannot legislate away this problem unfortunately. I think the people making emotional arguments are just reaching for an easy fix, but I dont believe one exists. We have a huge cultural problem in this country as is blatantly obvious by the last 3 years. I think we also have a major educational and parenting problem. We have been raising a generation of entitled kids that do not know how to cope with the real world because they have never developed the necessary thick skin. Additionally in todays culture boys are being continually told they are toxic and have oppressed people by just being alive. This is a very fucked up thing to be espousing to young minds. I could go on and on, but it really boils down to the fact that the gun is just a tool. The violent crime in our country has been trending downward for decades while civilian firearm ownership has skyrocketed. The mass shooting issues are a far more recent issue we are facing. We've always had the guns, so what might be causing there to be more fucked up people than ever before? Sorry I know I just wrote an essay.

@omni87 answer from a responsible gun owner, stop giving mass shooters fame. They do it because they're most likely seeking fame. When machine guns were totally acceptable in society, and sold over the counter with no background checks, there were no school shootings, oh, and there were no demo rats staging these events. Back during prohibition and the great depression, the only people shooting others were criminals and cops. Bonnie and Clyde, Dillinger, baby Faced Nelson, all criminals, and all killed people. We have a social issue, kids today sheltered inside on a screen, no human interaction, they spout bullshit without the repercussions of getting punched in the face for getting out of line. Now, they go outside, pasty white from no sun, doped up on psycho meds, someone calls them out on their bullshit, they get scared. They get a gun and start shooting, why, BECAUSE THEY WERE RAISED TO BE PUSSIES AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO TRADE PUNCHES AND ARE SCARED OF GETTING HIT. No amount of gun laws will stop mass shootings, why, because criminals do not obey gun laws. Mexico has strict gun laws, yet people get shot quite often.

There is a difference in Surrendering Freedom, and making sure people that shouldn't have weapons, don't get access to them. Personally, I'd rather everyone have a firearm on their person, and be trained in it's us. Then all these idiots would be stopped at no more than one shot before they are quickly taken out by everyone around them...

That is not an accurate quote. Franklin didn’t say that. What he wrote was, “Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” It was referring to taxation in Pennsylvania.

In a free society people have the choice. Do good or do bad. Free will. We are founded on self reliance. Do you best to be prepared. We are free men. Liberty or death. Good luck to you my friend!
