The name of Confederate President Jefferson Davis has been removed from the Fort Monroe historical site in Hampton, Virginia. "Fort Monroe is where the first enslaved Africans arrived on our shores in 1619," Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam tweeted earlier this month. "A memorial glorifying the President of the Confederacy has no place here.” The arch was built in the 1950s. (📸: Shutterstock)

@darby1944 it’s not necessarily an honor as I see it. It’s a structure signifying events that took place, to find pain or hatred and attach ones self to that energy is the real problem. Why are you all trying so hard to erase the past or ideas that were present then? Why not accept that past and grow? Stunted growth like coffee for children. All stimulated but lack general nutrition to aide quality process of thought. I guess being American means being ignorant and arrogant still 🤷🏻♂️ you’d think with all this pride bullshit accompanied with grouping on a whole other level people would be productive ( cutting out greed, profiteering, climate resolution, etc..). All I hear is bah bah bah 🐑

@yxng.lila it's still a part of history. It didnt seem to bother anyone until now when everyone is becoming so sensitive about every single thing. That is how it was back then. They made people who were leaders who probably shouldn't have been. They commemorated people who probably shouldn't have been. Yes, we all know how wrong it is for this guy to have had this dedicated to him for what he did. But thats how people in the past thought and we have now evolved. We have learned from the past. Quit being so sensitive by trying to remove and erase all the bad parts of history or it'll surely repeat itself.

It's a piece of history. Good or bad it shouldn't matter. There are schools named after the men who fought in the civil war. Are they gonna take that too? Too many people being sensitive and mean. I'm sorry if this offends anyone but I think that history should be left alone. There is a reason why that park is named after him just like there is a reason for the schools and streets being named after African Americans. Should we remove Martin Luther King stuff because it offends others? That's history. I'm just saying that people should learn.

@iamliterallytheworst #still not blocked 😂😂😂 THANK GOD a republican president freed the slaves, and I don’t think anyone here is condoning slavery. It was REPUBLICANS that freed the slaves 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 damn demokkkrats wanting to keep slavery around... demokkkrats are still the same. They don’t want black people to have their own ideas, and it’s people like you who keep trying to keep people down. Lol, start doing better for yourself and stop blaming others on your shortcomings. Enjoy your day, little tommy 😉

@tornadoesandbourbon lmao of course you think the Republicans of the Civil War era are the same ones as today. That's why you see all those guys in the south who carry confederate flags voting blue, right? Good god man, get out of middle school first before you try coming at people with your lame ass attacks. You end up looking pretty stupid, and a bit like a stalker who can't stop thinking about me 👍

If you don’t like America or it’s history or it’s anything. Go live in a 3rd world country and see how you like it or go to parts of the world we’re people commit Genocide on their own kind. Americans worry about the littlest thing. There’s bigger problems than shit like this. 💯
