Photo by @bethjwald | Traditional Quechua weavers from the Andean village of Chinchero stand together during a gathering at a weaving cooperative in the Sacred Valley outside of Cusco, Peru. Through their weaving, they are both maintaining traditions and developing a sustainable business for their community. For many Andean peoples in South America, August is a time to celebrate and honor the life-giving power of Pachamama or Mother Earth. So this month I am celebrating the enduring culture and legacy of Andean peoples of the Americas, and all indigenous peoples across the world who honor, worship and strive to live in harmony with the natural world and who understand that by taking care of the earth, her bounty will sustain us. It is something we should all be more mindful of, and we should all work harder to care for our one mother, this fragile, beautiful earth. For so many centuries the indigenous people from many places around the world were treated with disdain and seen as "inferiors". Now the "modern" society is looking back to them and understanding why they kept their traditions choosing simplicity rather than greediness, and are learning, common sense really, things like to love and respect Mother Nature, living in harmony with her: the Pachamama.

Merci

We were at this s cooperative four years ago. Their work is incredible. The use of all-natural products in their handiwork is really something to see.
