Red Hot Chili Peppers released ‘Mother’s Milk’ 30 years ago today. The album set the funk-punkers on a path for MTV stardom, festival headlining and, eventually, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Click the link in our bio to read our 2014 interview with drummer Chad Smith as he looks back at the moment that changed his life, re-invented his band and ultimately made the world a little freakier. I doubt you’ll see this comment but when this band was mentioned recently to a friend of mine’s young teen daughter and her friends they had no clue who they were. But one of them piped up, Oh you know, it’s one of those bands from the 1900’s. What!!???!!! Could have been any band “from the 1900’s” it just happened to be TRHCP in that moment. Feeling old? Wow.

Liked the early stuff but it was raw af, Mothers Milk was the start toward their Blood Sugar peak, then rapid decline to the mundane, middle of the road dross they churn out nowadays.

"Have you ever paid money to hear music performed by California funk rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers?" Then you're going to The Bad Place 😏

@loleary30 still put that on occasionally, ironically I was recently listening to The Samples which always makes me think of you

@brown_avacodos I caught them at the Fillmore that year or 88’ and they showed up to an after hours party later...

Hands down the worst band I’ve ever seen live with the worst lyricist of all time. Utter turd.
