Photo by @bethjwald | As the days shorten and the fall colors deepen, I am thinking of past autumn journeys. One of my favorite destinations is Canyonlands National Park. I took this photo several years ago on Thanksgiving Day, when the duties of roasting a turkey along with the cold, rainy weather kept most hikers inside. I had the whole Syncline Trail in the park's Island in the Sky district to myself. These are moments in the outdoors to treasure—solitude, fog over the canyon walls, and the trail leading one on.
