I had fears that it could destroy my body that I worked SO HARD for for SO MANY YEARS. I thought it would reverse all my hard work, dedication and possibly steal my motivation, & drive from me. I had identified with being strong, fit, and lean for so long that I was worried I wouldn’t feel like myself and possibly fall depressed or lost. Society seems to condition women to believe their self worth only lies in being ultra sexy, and even ultra fit. Society doesn’t seem to recognize how incredibly powerful and magical the process of pregnancy is. Why don’t we celebrate this incredibly humbling and enriching stage of a woman’s life? How is it not taught to our youth that one day to mother a child or family can fulfill her life, love, strength and beauty? Why do we make fun of pregnant women or even new mothers on television and movies? There’s always this undertone of “oh she’s a hot mess now” “she’s a new mom, she must be fat, worn out, not taking care of herself and turning off her man.” Why the HELL is society teaching us this? I was actually terrified that my husband might not find me attractive now or ever again if I had a child. How awful is that?! I was shocked to find out that my man and MOST MEN-absolutely fall even more in love with their women during pregnancy & find them sexy! And you know I’m not alone in these ridiculous assumptions because women everywhere have reached out to me asking if I’m scared of losing my body and former identity. I’ve had women tell me their terrified of not being fit or sexy anymore. How awful that society doesn’t empower pregnant women or new moms? We can be fit and strong during and after pregnancy. And how beautiful is it that our babies don’t choose us and yet they will still love and adore everything about us no matter what we look like when they arrive?! How BEAUTIFUL OF A LOVE IS THAT?!? It’s powerful, overwhelming and unconditional. How beautiful is it that every mother and father who desires that unconditional love shall get to experience it from their child?
