Photo by Ifeoma Ozoma @ifyozoma | Though fall in Iceland is wet and roads are often thick with fog, I found it to be the perfect time for a two-week-long solo trip around the island. Almost all roads were still open, though some F-roads were impassable (even in a 4WD vehicle) due to deep and fast-flowing river crossings. Always ask locals about driving conditions!
September happened to be slower for tourism, so the campsites—especially in the Westfjords and northeast—were quiet and peaceful.
