I just received some very odd news and I simply can’t not share this with you.⁣⁣⁣

For a couple of months, we have been coordinating a cover shoot for @experiencelifemag - a lifestyle magazine with focus on wellness. It’s been a lot of back and forth to get the shoot to happen with the magazine first wanting to shoot the cover in LA, then Aruba, and finally settled on us doing it here in Tulum.⁣⁣⁣

The day of our shoot - today! - we got an unexpected email from the Editor In Chief, sharing that they are canceling the shoot and and won’t be able to feature me on the cover. Why? Because of my involvement with the New York Times article and documentary on #MeToo in the yoga world.⁣⁣⁣

My jaw literally fell to the floor. Apparently, Experience Life Magazine is owned by the company who owns Life Time Fitness (who owns the teacher training programs run by the male teacher exposed in NYT, accused of multiple counts of inappropriate touch and behavior). ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
I speak up in support of the women who have been traumatized under the guise of these “assists”... And get booted off the cover. Of course. This is a nice way of showing the world what happens when you blow the whistle on predator-like behavior, or when you side with sexually abused women. You get silenced. You get punished. Well. At least they’re transparent about it! Big thanks to the magazine for sharing this so openly with me. I get that they are doing their best and that this decision came from higher up the corporate chain.... But, seriously?⁣⁣⁣

Life Time - if you want to do some real damage control, a good place to start would be by offering support to the women who have come forward. Alienating the people involved in this very important fight for justice is not going to give you any better press. Actually, this feature could have been a great place to openly discuss how you are hard at work making sure women feel safe in your trainings and programs - and how respectfully passing on the sacred practice of yoga is a responsibility we all should take seriously. ⁣⁣⁣

So, no cover for me. I’ll live! Let’s continue holding corporations and teachers accountable. ⁣⁣⁣
