Then, CIA held a crisis simulation competition that my university attended, and as soon as I started taking part, I knew: this was all I wanted to do now; this was going to be my life. I began interning after my sophomore year, worked here for four summers, became a Truman Scholar, studied international security, and came here full time after my graduate degree. I’m still in awe that I get paid to do something I’d basically pay someone to let me do—reading, writing, and briefing about foreign affairs. As soon as I was in the door, I was amazed at the opportunities I had at such an entry-level part of my career. This is a very unique aspect of CIA, something that sets us apart from other government agencies and the private sector: the Agency places so much trust in you based on your skills and not on tenure.
