We're working to improve accessibility by educating the workforce about ongoing issues and how they can support disabled people in their offices. We’re really at a point now where we have tremendous support from senior CIA leadership on accessibility issues, and in general, there’s been an elevation of diversity and inclusion issues as a whole. I feel like an obvious lesson is becoming so clear here: that issues of diversity and inclusion are not ones you can separate from mission. To accomplish the mission, you need everyone in the room, and you need everyone to be able to succeed regardless of what their differences are. That’s really being woven into the fabric of the Agency, and it’s exciting to be a part of. I love it here. It’s not perfect, but despite the issues that we’re still working through, it’s been amazing to have such strong support from management and colleagues. They’ve always approached anything about my disability as: ‘How do we make it possible for her to be able to contribute to mission in the most impactful way?’ When there have been obstacles, we have always been able to collectively tear them down. The premise of the culture here is that, if you made it in the door, you are here for a reason and you deserve to contribute to the mission like anyone else. That way of thinking really opened doors for me as someone with a disability who, for a long time, questioned if they were going to be able to have a meaningful career.
