For over thirty years, #ArthurJafa has compiled clippings from a broad array of sources. His notebooks are repositories of references and ideas that serve as representations of the depth and beauty of black life in America. In the immersive 2013 video “APEX,” Jafa organizes a fast-paced sequence of these images set to a driving soundtrack of electronic club beats. For #MoMAMagazine, the artist takes us through his charged video work and the notebooks that inspired it.
