Now on view! 🌊🌊🌊 In the centuries before 1492, the Taíno peoples of the islands of the Greater Antilles and the diverse civilizations of Central and South America engaged in a rich cultural exchange that produced stunning and enduring works of art.

Artists in the region—including the modern Antilles archipelago and countries such as Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, and Honduras—sought to express the distinct force of their deities and ancestors, known to the Taínos as zemí (or cemí), which pervaded the environment and was crucial to the foundation of communities. ⁣
See more than 40 works that celebrate the cultural legacy of these ancestral communities in "Arte del mar: Artistic Exchange in the Caribbean," on view now through January 2021.
