I have had the pleasure of meeting World War II veteran Sgt. John “Jack” Thurman a #IwoJima survivor and one of the last identified individuals in the first version of the flag raising on #MountSuribachi., (that is him raising his helmet)

Working on a story for @ナショナルジオグラフィック about Jack and other veterans as the 75th anniversary of the end of the war approaches. A six medal recipient the 94 year old Has had quite a life a career as a Marine for which he was awarded the of the Bronze Star.
