Photo by @babaktafreshi | A stunning Southern Hemisphere view of the Milky Way from 5,000 meters (16,000 feet) high appears in this 20-second, single-exposure photograph taken from the ALMA observatory in the Chilean Andes, an array of 66 movable large radio dishes that can work together as a giant single telescope. The array moves and expands in the area to zoom in on an object or clusters in a pack to reveal fainter, wider targets. ALMA can be synched with several other telescopes across the globe to create a much larger radio telescope array to reveal some of the most challenging objects, such as a black hole in the heart of another galaxy.
