Photo by @stephen_matera | Every four or five years in North America, there is an explosion in the snowy owl population— known as an irruption—and 2012 was such a year, with snowy owls traveling farther south and in much larger numbers than normal, including many like this one at Boundary Bay park in southern British Columbia. There were probably 20 or more in a square mile area.
