Here’s deets + how to help!! #Repost @jessicayellin ・・・ From New York and New Jersey to Michigan, California -- leaders in COVID hotspots are calling on the White House to get health care workers personal protective equipment (PPE) ASAP.⁠ ⁠ In New York, Mayor Bill de Blasio said they have 10 days to get more gear, or “people will die who could have lived otherwise.” And, “We've gotten no indication of any factory on 24/7 shifts. We've gotten no shipments.”⁠ ⁠ This isn’t partisan politics. NY is at the epicenter of the COVID crisis; usually restrained emergency leaders are warning of catastrophe if masks, gloves, gowns, ventilators & other critical supplies don’t arrive – fast. The same could be true in Washington State, Louisiana, & a host of others.⁠ ⁠ What can be done: Earlier this week the President activated something called the Defense Production Act. In short, it gives him the power to tell US manufacturers to stop producing whatever they were making – and start producing what’s needed. It takes a minute for a factory to shift from old production to making something entirely new, & every minute counts.⁠ ⁠ Today the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency said that, though the President activated the DPA, he hasn’t done anything with it. Meaning, he hasn’t ordered specific manufacturers to shift their production. Why? He said companies are already doing it voluntarily. But leaders across the country say they see no evidence of a pipeline of critical supplies & White House action is needed now. ⁠ ⁠ What can you do?
