Photo by @paoloverzone | The history of the magnificent Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy, France, dates back to 708 when Aubert, Bishop of Avranches, built the sanctuary dedicated to the archangel Michael. It became a center for learning and pilgrims have visited the site for centuries. The island is a perfect example of efficient military architecture; its fortifications resisted all the English assaults. Today visitors can enjoy the abbey in all its splendor.
