Hey y’all! It’s 4/20 & what better day to discuss something that has helped me with my extreme PTSD, trauma, & anxiety: Cannabis. I’ve always struggled with how to talk about it publicly when there are so many who are unfairly incarcerated because of cannabis. I was raised in Mississippi where it’s still illegal, & heard horror stories growing up about it. If you would’ve told me that I would be a businesswoman, mom, & a cannabis user, I would’ve laughed at you. While I’m grateful to live in California where it’s legal, we still have so many in my own state that are in prison. The ACLU released a report today showing that in the United States that states , “Black people are 3.6x more likely to get arrested for marijuana possession than a white person”.
Their report found:
1️⃣The nationwide war on marijuana rages on
2️⃣There are fewer arrests in states that legalized or decriminalized
3️⃣Extreme racial disparities in marijuana arrests persist
4️⃣Legalization is still the answer, but it's not enough
I encourage you if you’re able, to follow pages like @lastprisonerproject @expungementweek @wegohighnc @aclu_nationwide to do our part to advocate for those that can’t. I’m aware that some of you might unfollow me, or not understand & that’s ok. If this helps a handful of people who were like me, who stigmatized something that helps so many, then I’ll be happy. 💚 #legalizenotcriminalize
