ナショナルジオグラフィックさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ナショナルジオグラフィックInstagram)「Photo by @PaulNicklen | Pacific white-sided dolphins travel together off the coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Sunlight reaches for them from above, painting the skin of those near the surface with streaks of light. These animals are incredible to watch underwater. They are playful and charismatic, radiating curiosity and intelligence. You can see in this photo that the dolphin in the middle is staring right at me. I don't know what he was thinking, but I must have been pretty uninteresting because he looked away after this. Like the orcas that we saw in northern Norway, Pacific white-sided dolphins work in unity to corral entire schools of herring into glittering, silver balls so that everybody gets a chance to eat. This is a prime example of nature's systems at work. While the future may feel uncertain right now, as more and more people step into isolation every day, one thing remains clear to me: the power of community. I hope this dolphin pod provides an inspiring metaphor for understanding what the human species can achieve when we work together as #onlyone—whether that is in person or online. Stay safe, friends. Follow me @PaulNicklen for more examples of teamwork in #nature from @SeaLegacy's #OceanSchool. #ExtinctionEndsHere #TurningTheTide This Earth Day, let your child’s imagination run wild. Encourage them to make their own safari scene and share them with us using #NatGeoEarthDayatHome.
