Porcelain painter Sun Lixin traveled from China to Washington, D.C., with a perfectly round white clay bowl for the 2014 @smithsonianfolklife festival. When two pieces broke off, Sun smoothed the broken edge into a curving line and offset the void with a small cut out of the opposite side.
Sun is the fourth generation of his family to be involved with ceramics production in Jingdezhen, China—a famous center of porcelain production since the 11th century. He painted and carved the surface, while Yuan Lin Jiang made the bowl. #APAHM #MuseumMomentOfZen
