Artist Walter Elmer Schofield spent much of his time and life on the east coast of the United States, and is most closely associated with the Pennsylvania Impressionists. The largest body of his work includes landscapes and snowy scenes of New England, along with marine paintings made in England and France. It wasn't until late in his career that he traveled to the American Southwest, where he created bright and vividly colored landscapes like this one of Tujunga Canyon.⁣
