Our goal was to climb the untouched South summit on #CerroRisoPatronSur, a mountain which is situated in such a remote place that deserves the fame of being “en el culo del mundo”. That was a coveted objective, already attempted by a few strong and experienced parties. Silvan and I opted for a wild expedition, following fair means approach. We started in Puerto Eden (Chile) and paddled for 100 km by kayak, carrying with us all the equipment for climbing and surviving 30 days. Kayaking in the Patagonian winds proved to be very hard, but finding the way to reach the mountain through swamps, rivers, forests and glaciers was even more exciting. However, at some point we had to use our fantasy and set 80 meters Tyrolian line to cross the river. Eventually, we made our summit bid and climbed a prominent mixed line on the 1000 meters tall West face of the Cerro Riso Patron. We climbed the final ice-mushroom and reached the top right at the sunset. It was a magical moment and our sight could range over a frozen landscape of virgin summits. I think this part of #HieloContinental offers huge room for mountaineering and exploration.
