"Embellishment was, and still is, so integral to the house of Lanvin: how to achieve the beauty of effect - with pattern and light - and to imagine the wearer's movement. The sample books in the archive give us a clue to the wealth of skills developed for the collections, but also of experimentation (some found here were never used). Bows run through the archive, as delicate fastenings, then abstracted as the essential feminine motif, and then find their way into new menswear collections - Bruno Sialelli keeping the archive alive through re-description, and re-interpretation."
