It’s time to seek the truth, research for ourselves and question how deeply rooted racism is in our system and how that is still affecting the lives of First Nations People. . I’m so grateful that my children are taught in a school which gives them a deeper education into this country’s history. They are taught respect for this land and First Nations People. Through them we have been learning snippets of history and it amazed me I was never taught any of this at school. We’ve learnt about the ‘island paradise’ Rottnest and the horrors that happened there. And the history of the pearl industry in Broome 😢 Last year one of the school excursions was to @bangarradancetheatre which was beyond incredible, deeply moving and a life changing experience for me and my daughter. I highly recommend it if you have the chance to experience these artists 🙏🏼 . I encourage you to learn more and expose yourself to the truth no matter how uncomfortable or painful that might be. It’s our duty. We must be part of the solution. After all we are living on stolen land. And we have blindly benefited all this time while lives and generations were stolen, and untold abuse and exploitation of a beautiful culture that dates back 65,000 years occurred. . We will never be able to understand so let’s listen and hear with our hearts the history from the First Nations People. And while you’re listening and learning, let’s discover all the beauty of this culture that is the oldest continuing culture in the world. What could this country look like if we acknowledged the systemic racism and real changes were made to benefit and support the First Nations People. . I hope we can all wake up and show honour and respect for the traditional owners of this land and let them know how truly sorry we are. I know I am. I’m so sorry for not speaking up sooner on this platform. I will do better. . As I start to post my own content from tomorrow please know my learning and work will not stop.
