They bring the galleries to life and Tate wouldn't be the same without them. While the galleries are closed, our volunteers are sharing an artwork that feels close to them in this time. 'Antony Gormley’s 'Bed' is a good conversation-piece in the gallery, my personal favourite: humorous, and you can eat it. It’s funny to make art from bread. Not many artworks are edible! How was it made? Gormley constructed, ingested, ate his own body volume in bread to create it. His body space, but it could be anyone’s. I’m now involved with different beds. While furloughed, I’ve become a Bank Domestic in a hospital. I’ve learnt to rapidly, efficiently clean and make beds ready for new patients: a clinical process, and a caring one, making a safe, comfortable bed for someone ill, worried, lonely. Covid 19 affects us all with heaviness of heart. For me, the humour has drained from Gormley's 'Bed'. Can I introduce 'Bed' to visitors the way I used to? Will it be too poignant for those who grieve? Or is this an artwork for us to grieve with? I meet the world at Tate, introducing many, many artworks. Being a Visitor Host is a real pleasure. Elegant Tate Britain, uber-cool Tate Modern, the wet concrete smell of the Tanks, conversations with visitors, wonderful tours, I miss these. Mostly I miss our lovely volunteers and superb staff. I can’t wait to return when we can -- healthy and safe together.' - Jane, Visitor Host Thank you Jane, and all our wonderful volunteers.」6月7日 21時53分 - tate
