I have been waiting to repost this for #nationalbestfriendsday, but after this week, I wasn’t sure if I should. Here’s why. Do you see what’s missing? Diversity. They all look the same. Even Tuna is dressed up like Colin. Then I realised that’s precisely why I should post this because this photo could be a picture of what some of our friend groups look like. Not all of us, but some of us. We may have one or two friends of different races sprinkled in our friend group, but what would it look like if we made more of an intentional effort to get to know other people outside of our own race? What if we were more intentional about being inclusive of others? What if we realised the importance of diversity, and that by being the same, we aren’t giving ourselves the opportunity to appreciate and grow from our differences. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately as it applies to me- and rethinking who I can become better friends with...and to. So today, I’m asking myself, how can I be a better friend to people outside of my own race? How can I be better friends to people who I wouldn’t have otherwise considered a friendship with?
