What would it be like to walk in the actual footsteps of Harriet Tubman? In 2018, activists T. Morgan Dixon (pictured) and Vanessa Garrison answered this question by hiking the Underground Railroad — the route that Tubman took almost 170 years ago to lead herself and hundreds of other Black men and women to freedom. Morgan and Vanessa run GirlTrek, a health movement for Black women which focuses on walking. “Anyone who talks about [Harriet Tubman] as a mythological figure does her an injustice," says Morgan. "She didn’t have special powers — she was an everyday woman who took her life in her hands. She just did it in a way that happened to shift the course of America.” To learn more about their journey and GirlTrek’s inspiring mission of radical self-care, health and healing, visit the link in our bio.
