After @pbsamericanmasters debuted a documentary on Mae West, the irrepressible blond bombshell from Brooklyn, we dug into the archive to see what Vogue had to say about the actor and writer. It turns out that 1933 was her year in fashion. “Paris Goes Mae West,” was the title of one of many articles—and a poem—that celebrated the actor’s It factor, and charted the trickle up effect of the look she sported in She Done Him Wrong (one that she never really abandoned). In the movie, West oozes femininity and exalts the corseted hourglass shape and frills of the Gay Nineties (as in the 1890s).
