ライアン・テダーさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ライアン・テダーInstagram)「Growing up as a young kid a lot of my closest friends were black, asian, Hispanic- we all played soccer together & I was lucky enough that my parents never reinforced anything but acceptance and kindness to all my friends. My early childhood contrasted sharply with middle school and high school where I witnessed the most abject & brazen racism I’ve seen in my lifetime, leading me to quit my high school basketball team & distance myself from a lot of my peers. I hadn’t witnessed that type of race based hatred ever and for a time I thought things might have gotten better. I was wrong. My brain cannot wrap itself around the concept of disliking someone because of the pigment of their skin- it literally can’t process it- but it’s real - a lot of our ancestors stole a lot of people from various countries and brought them to America. They didn’t ask to be brought, they were taken. I’m a massive Abraham Lincoln fan, I’ve even collected some of his hand written letters & photographs from the years during the Civil War, all of which bring a gravity & reality to the conviction and purpose he had. He couldn’t wrap his mind around hating or ostracizing someone for the pigment in their skin. It’s such a simple, human concept. Lincoln got it right over 150 years ago and yet alot of us are still getting it wrong. Let’s be on the right side of history moving forward- I can’t imagine what our descendants will think of us for allowing any of this poisonous divide to continue. 🙏」6月20日 1時09分
