On June 19, 1865 the remaining enslaved people in Texas were finally told of their freedom— Two and a half years AFTER the Emancipation Proclamation. This is a day for celebration and also a call to action because there is still so much work to do in our communities and in this country. Here are a few ways to join in on the celebration today. I’ve included links in my stories to all of these events! — This week during her 2 day anti-racism masterclass (which was INCREDIBLE) @revjacquilewis invited us all to an amazing #juneteenth celebration hosted by @middlechurch . It’s free and will be an incredible time. Swipe up in my stories to join! — There are two films out today that I’m really looking forward to watching. @juneteenthmovie is out as is @invisibleportraits . Links to both are in my stories. — Also @jemartisby is participating in a Facebook live with fellow leaders of change for a “Faith- rooted conversation about building a true democracy that dismantles systematic racism”. Check out his insta for more info. And while you are introducing yourself to @jemartisby (if you don’t yet know him), I’d like to strongly recommend his docu-series on @amazonprimevideo called “the color of compromise” . It’s based on his nytimes bestselling book of the same name about the American church and it’s complicity in systematic racism from the beginning. I’m about half way through and I keep telling all of my friends (especially christian friends) to watch it. We need to educate ourselves in order to truly participate in the dismantling of systematic racism that our country was built on and continues to operate under. I’m in an educational (and emotional) deep dive right now and I hope you guys will join me! ❤️❤️❤️ (The artwork from the first slide is by @jill_dehaan )」6月20日 3時57分 - thesarahdrew
