They were too big for me of course but I wore them all the time, nonetheless. Wearing these shoes felt like I was walking in dreams, in possibilities, in all the things that were to come. I saved them. They’ve always been tucked away in a drawer in my house, wherever I moved. Sometimes I’d slip them on in my 20s and dégagé or pirouette for a half an hour or so to remind myself I’m still a dancer at heart. Then I’d forget about them for years, stumble upon them again, smile, and go about my day only to forget about them again. Last night my daughter and I were watching @findmeinparisofficial (if your kids love dance and you’re not watching this with them you’re missing out!) and she ran upstairs and came down all in her ballet gear and said “Mommy go dress up!” She didn’t know about Pollyanna ‘s toe shoes and she was so impressed when I wore them downstairs and spun on them. I really fit into them now. Though I’m rusty at ballet, dance has always made me feel alive. What FUN to still live in those dreams but now through her eyes.
