The three most populous states set records for new coronavirus cases daily and there are fears of "apocalyptic" surges in major Texas cities if the trend continues. California, Texas and Florida all saw more than 5,000 new cases on Tuesday and Houston is poised to be the hardest-hit city in the US if trajectories continue. Overall, at least 26 states in the US are seeing a jump in coronavirus cases, with infection numbers among young people on the rise.
