Noah, a 14-year-old whose parents are from the Democratic Republic of Congo, is determined to bring down the statue of Belgium's King Leopold II. In the late 19th century, Leopold declared an enormous chunk of central Africa — more or less the territory that is now the Democratic Republic of Congo — to be his personal possession. He sent in a private army to force local people to collect ivory and rubber. He was one of the most brutal European exploiters of Africa. Noah set up a petition to have Brussels' memorials to Leopold torn down, and it has 80,000 signatures and counting. "For me when you put a statue of Hitler in Berlin, for me, that is like putting up a statue of Leopold in Brussels," said Noah, who requested CNN not use his last name.
