I am a believer that we’re all fighting for something - and if we aren’t, there are countless of causes we can lend ourselves to. I have way too many ancestors who spent their lives fighting. Fighting for their freedom to exist & their voices to be heard. My grandfather was tortured & murdered when my dad was just 8 years old, while fighting for the Kurds. His death was brutal. In the 70’s Saddam Hussein wanted my other grandfather captured & hung to death for his artwork portrayals of the Kurds being badly mis-treated at the hands of his dictatorship. I praise God that he is still alive today (he was the one who gave me my name) & his courage alongside so many others, is why I cannot live in silence.⁣ It’s in my blood to SPEAK UP. ⁣ Currently, Turkey is launching air strikes against civilian populations in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. It’s wrong on so many levels. I have to say that there is no hatred in my heart towards Turkish people. I have Turkish friends & followers who I respect and love, who also love and support the Kurds. We’re all pretty fed up with this Kurdish/Turkish conflict - not to exclude the many other minority groups who are also being attacked. This continues generation after generation. We are a family of 1 million followers here, so my hope is to put pressure on our representatives, both here in the US & Europe to intervene & to stop ignoring us. We just haven’t been the best at co-existing despite our differences. What we all share is the same pain. God wants to take that pain and use it to unite Kurdish nations - regardless of your region, “tribe”, political views, dialect. We can’t do this without other nations support but we also can’t do this if we aren’t walking hand in hand together. Choose your words & actions wisely (on and offline). Have faith. Stand united.
