It was a moment when I was propelled into the spotlight across the world for the very first time. - Winning an ATP Title was my next big goal to conquer, and I remember walking onto the stadium court that night. My mind was everywhere and thoughts were racing, yet I also had a measure of peace about the final. I did my best to be in the zone but on that night I was thinking about the final, my parents and wishing they were there and hoping I made my girlfriend and sister proud. It was a lot of pressure and emotions. - The first set was up and down, but after five breaks, I settled down and added one more to take the first set. I started to breathe and focused on my presence in that moment (psst, I have a post coming on this topic later!). I started playing well and found myself with a championship point. - I had four match points, and on my fifth match point I won when Felix's forehand hit the net. Instantly, I felt relief from all of the emotion and pressure of the match. I dropped my racquet, covered my face and puffed out my chest. I could not believe I had one my first ATP Title! - I pointed to the sky, where my parents were watching and deciated that victory to them.
