Photo by Matt Borowick @mborowick The drive out to Landmannalaugar is a wonderful experience by itself, but when you finally reach the Brennisteinsalda campsite, you will understand fully why the rocky terrain leading up to this point was well worth the trek. Mount Brennisteinsalda is an active volcano with hot sulphur springs and vapor spewing out from the earth. It last erupted back in 1961, but it is safe to explore the area. Looking over the Laugahraun lava field toward the volcano, you can see a wonderful color change on the mountain, which is also called the Sulphur Wave.
