I fear there may be an unconscious bias relating to the intelligence of Black business owners and their competence. We just want an opportunity. If we suck, then don’t use us again; that’s fair. Also, I believe for so long popular images of Black people – particularly Black men – with dogs has been few and far between. There are tons of commercials with dogs on the TV/internet, but I bet you can count on one hand how many have minority faces in them. And often when there is an image on popular media it's Michael Vick; this has a framing effect and implies a negative connotation and relationship with Black men and dogs. As a member of the ‘Black delegation’ I can say we absolutely LOVE dogs.”
