Perfect demonstration of a grimace or Flehmen response as it’s also called. A smell is picked up and then drawn over the vomeronasal organ (on the roof of the palate towards the upper incisors) also called the organ of Jacobson, where the scent is analyzed. In this case there’s a scent on my boot that has intrigued Ginny. In a wild situation there are various chemicals and hormones that would trigger this response. Once they’ve drawn in a smell they automatically memorize it so that if/when they encounter it again there is a recollection. There is zero aggressiveness exhibited whilst performing this behaviour.
