Over 160 pairs of white nursing clogs lined the lawn facing the US Capitol Tuesday in memory of nurses who have died during the coronavirus crisis. At the vigil, the nurses implored the Senate to pass the HEROES Act, a sweeping $3 trillion bill proposed by Democrats that, among many other measures, increases personal protection equipment for hospitals. Since the start of the pandemic, health care workers across the US have faced shortages of personal protective equipment, leading them to reuse contaminated materials. National Nurses United, the largest union for registered nurses in the US, says inadequate PPE has contributed to nursing deaths.
