Photo by @Joel Sartore I The African lion population has declined nearly 90 percent in the last 50 years. Today, with most of their remaining habitat found outside national parks, friendly community action is key to the survival of this big cat. Ewaso Lions, led by Nat Geo explorer Shivani Bhalla, and the Ruaha Carnivore Project, led by Nat Geo explorer Amy Dickman, are part of Pride Lion Conservation Alliance (PRIDE)–a group working to reverse the decline of lions across Africa. Consisting of five different conservation projects, PRIDE is a new model of collaboration that works to save more lions by working with and inspiring local people. Collectively these projects employ 450 locals from four lion-range countries ,and are currently protecting nearly 25 percent of Africa’s estimated wild lions. Photo taken @theomahazoo.
