We started @elkrun5k...a 5k road race in my hometown, Crested Butte CO, that raises money for a local cancer support group @living_journeys. Over the last 3 races, we have donated $90,000 to Living Journeys and this year hope to donate another $40,000. Living Journeys offers support to people battling cancer- counseling services, direct financial support, and help with transportation & lodging for treatment. When we started Elk Run 5k, benefitting a local cancer group, I didn’t expect that a few years later my mom would be diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She is on her 11th round of chemo and is doing really well, but this experience has made me realize how important community and support are when someone is battling cancer.
