Today was the first time I have run on a track in 4 years, the last time being my 800m race at the 2016 Olympics. It has been intimidating to me to do a track workout since retiring because I was worried about how I’d feel, mentally and emotionally, both for nostalgic reasons as well as when I realized how out of shape I have gotten.
But now, 6.5 months postpartum, I was feeling mentally strong enough to deal with those emotions, especially with Ander sitting in his stroller on the sidelines. So in typical Brianne fashion, I decided to go all out and absolutely kill myself with this workout:
2x300m
2x200m
2x150m
2x100m
3 mins rest between reps, 5 mins rest between sets
It was a FAAAR cry from the times I used to run, but 53 second 300s and 35 second 200s was faster than I thought I’d run, and it actually felt natural and easy, like riding a bike. I’m so happy I made the decision to get back out on the track. Can’t wait for the next one.
