ニューヨーク近代美術館のインスタグラム(themuseumofmodernart) - 8月22日 23時50分

A kaleidoscopic interplay between human and object, painter Fernand Léger's only film, “Ballet mécanique,” was completely unlike contemporary commercial movies, and would pave the way for other revolutionary films like "Metropolis" and "Limite."

Affected by his experience of fighting in World War I, and in particular by the mustard gas attack that left him hospitalized for a year, #Leger became fascinated with mechanical technology.

“Ballet mécanique," which was photographed by filmmaker Dudley Murphy (possibly with some involvement from #ManRay) in 1924, juxtaposes faces and body parts with kitchen utensils, gears, and pendulums.

Explore #Dada on screen with three short films streaming in Week 3 of Film Vault Summer Camp. Start watching at mo.ma/dadaonscreen (link in bio!)
