In the summer of 2018, @メトロポリタン美術館 and @ottolenghi invited me to dream up the grandest cake I could think of for an exhibition about the feasts of Versailles. I’ve been to Versailles once many years ago - though, growing up in France, I didn’t have enough money to actually get inside, so I just walked around the gardens outside. 🤣 For French people, Versailles isn’t just a destination, it’s a part of our heritages and history. And for me, it represents the grandeur of the time, which I transformed into a larger-than-life swan cake - complete with mechanized flapping wings - and hundreds of tiny swan-shaped cream puffs. The road to this exhibition has now been turned into a beautiful documentary - OTTOLENGHI AND THE CAKES OF VERSAILLES - in theaters and on demand on September 25th thanks to @ifcfilms.
