The loss of 532 billion tons was higher than in the previous record year of 2012 (464 billion tons), which corresponds to a global average sea-level rise of 1.5 mm. This study by the Alfred Wegener Institute, the German Research Centre for Geosciences, and international partners evaluated data from the satellite mission GRACE Follow-On.
